The only setting that I think flip flops at the actual wedding would be appropriate is a casual beach wedding.
They're called flip flops for a reason. Do you really want that slapping sound as you're going up the aisle? And hogwash that a long dress will hide them. People see your shoes when you walk and when you dance.
